I'm relatively new to artisan. Been using RoastLogger for years but now that
I have my phidget 1048 I don't need the camera/ocr feature anymore.
I haven't been able to locate the help file or information about the
settings under Config-Device - Phidgets tab. For instance, Async check
boxes, raw data, change etc. I've found everything on the github page, but
maybe I just haven't been successful in pinpointing the proper area to look.
Secondly- I'm roasting on a Diedrich IR-24, which has a thicker J
thermocouple than the one I've hooked up to artisan, which is a K type 1/8in
I purchased here:
https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/Shopping/Catalog/Sensors_-z-_Encoders/T
emperature_Sensors_-a-_Transmitters/Thermocouple_Sensors/Probes_(with_Lead_W
ire_Transition)/THMK-T06L06-01
The temperatures are around 30 degrees F higher on the thinner K
thermocouple than what the roaster is reporting, even though my
thermocouples in the roaster are mounted next to each other (didn't want to
piggyback on BT of the roaster to phidgets)
Does anyone have any experience in this area? Perhaps the simple fact that
the probe is thinner means the readings will be different, but I do not
know. It would appear that the readings on the roaster are accurate while
the other is much hotter.
Just getting started, and appreciate any guidance.
The info you provide is very terse.
“SF6” is probably http://www.sanfranroaster.com/sf-6lb <http://www.sanfranroaster.com/sf-6lb>
And “Watlow" I assume to mean http://www.watlow.com/products/controllers/temperature.cfm <http://www.watlow.com/products/controllers/temperature.cfm>
My hunch is you maybe just connected the cables without making sure that variables like baud speed, even/uneven, parity, stopbits are all set exactly the same on both ends.
SF should be providing that info / assistance in their manuals / service desk.

Hi,
are you using isolated thermocouples?
If you are, perhaps somewhere the isolation broke and is touching the protective mesh and picking up electrical noise of your machine.
If your weren't it could also be a grounding problem in your roaster.

I am wondering if you can help me. A couple months ago my graphs started getting very spiky and i could see that it wasn't just the ROR out of whack but all the others jittered at the same time. Even my ambient temperature would go up and all the others. Very often it came as I hit an event button on the artisan app.
I thought my battery was going on my Center 304 reader so I bought an AC adaptor. (I read now that power supply to your laptop is not good …never used one, so I thought maybe the same for Temp probes?) Anyways even tonight when I unplug and went back onto the battery I get very inconsistent readings. Mind you, I haven't bought a new battery yet. Could this be the problem?
I am just trying to reproduce some old roasts and paying attention to ROR for some test reasons and everything is throwing me off.
I also have a new coffee I want to roast tomorrow and thats fine for roasting without…but to go back and to see what is going on the ROR is ridiculous. As the day goes on and you roast there is also no consistency in the problems. I have don't the update and have the same problems. I have also adjusted the samplings and smoothing of curves etc. My issues are beyond smoothing and sampling. It’s like the curve got a shot of electricity then dies then rebounds. I was going to send snapshots but today I had new settings with new intervals which makes the problem look worse and also had smoothed some curves after which didnt help me during.
Can you help me Please?
Thanks,
Pear
Hi,
I’m trying to monitor my airflow setting in Artisan. Up to now I have been manually moving a slider in Artisan when I move the actual potentiometer controlling the fan on the roaster.
I have two roasters. On one of the roasters, the potentiometer is 0-5V so I should be able to use the Phidgets Vint HUB0000 voltage input (which I ordered for this purpose and also the new ambiant weather function). However, when I measured on the 2nd roaster (which is actually the one I’m trying to connect to), the fan control potentiometer is 0-10V which is twice the voltage the HUB0000 can take.
As I am really not that good with electronic, I was wondering if anybody had a recomendation.
I have been reading about voltage dividers but also saw that Phidgets has a “Precision Voltage Sensor” (ID: 1135_0B) which can read 1/-30V DC. But I don’t think it’s in the list of Phidgets supported by Artisan.
Any input or recomendations are welcome.
Regards
Nicolas
Hi
I’m using Artisan 0.9.9 on a Mac (running High Sierra 10.13.6).
I enter temperatures manually (ie no Phidget connection).
I have been unable to get the DeltaBT curve to plot automatically as I enter temperatures. The DeltaBT LCD also shows zero. However if I go to Config > Colors and click OK (ie without making any color selection) then the DeltaBt curve appears. The DeltaBT curve also appears when I end the plot by selecting ‘Off’.
I tried Artisan 1.4.0 and the DeltaBT curve again fails to appear automatically as I enter data. The workaround I use for 0.9.9 selecting Colors from the Config menu does not work in 1.4.0 although the DeltaBT curve does appear after selecting ‘Off’ at the end of the roast.
In both 0.9.9 and 1.4.0 I have DeltaBT selected in the Curves menu.
Thanks for your anticipated help and suggestions
Steve
Dear Doak and all,
the Hottop communication is broken on v1.4. Thus either use for now the v1.3.1 until next week v1.5 is released, or use the v1.5 beta builds on BinTray that solve this and some other issue discovered in v1.4.

Hello, all,
I recently got a Hottop 2k+, and I am eager to use Artisan 1.4 with it.
However, I cannot seem to get Artisan and the HT to communicate. No matter
what port I choose or what USB port I try, I only get the "-1" readings. I
even tried a different laptop. I don't have this problem with Artisan
1.3.1.
I use the Windows version. I appreciate any advice you can provide.
Thanks! Cheers!
Doak Procter
Thanks Joel,
this is a valid "work-around".

I then had to give the new user access to the roast logs and set the display and axes parameters to match.

While I am now getting better readings from my voltage inputs (which is use to track control settings), it took me awhile to figure out that artisan was only displaying the millivolts component of the voltage readout. So, for example, 2.800 volts displayed as 800 and 3.250 volts as 250.
