The info you provide is very terse.
“SF6” is probably http://www.sanfranroaster.com/sf-6lb <http://www.sanfranroaster.com/sf-6lb>
And “Watlow" I assume to mean http://www.watlow.com/products/controllers/temperature.cfm <http://www.watlow.com/products/controllers/temperature.cfm>
My hunch is you maybe just connected the cables without making sure that variables like baud speed, even/uneven, parity, stopbits are all set exactly the same on both ends.
SF should be providing that info / assistance in their manuals / service desk.

Artisan Users,
I am trying to configure an additional sensor for a Artisan installation
that is a program (that gets the temperature from an afterburner
monitored by a thermocouple connected to an arduino). Currently the
ET/BT sensors are configured as MODBUS in the Device Assignment dialog,
and I am able to specify a device of type program in the Extra Device's
tab, but I do not see anyplace to specify the command to run. Is this a
bug? Am I missing a fundamental Artisan usage concept? Can anyone
advise how I would accomplish this?
Thanks,
Dennison
When I load Artisan and press ON I get this error message.
¨unicode strings are not supported, please encode to bytes:
u'CHAN;1200\n'@line 29514
1:33:59.664 Exception: ser.ARDUINOTC4temperature(): unicode strings are
not supported, please encode to bytes: u'CHAN;1200\n'@line 29514¨
OS is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64 bit.
Artisan is 0.9.9 through Tc4

The extra "program" devices use the program path specified in the ET/BT tab of the device configuration dialog (even if the "Program" radio button is not selected).
However, typo in v0.9.9 fixes that program path to "test.py". I just uploaded build 3 of v0.9.9 that fixes this on all platforms.
This build also fixes an issue with the communication to TC4 devices on Windows and Linux, and adds Russian translations (thanks Taras!).

This is not possible as it would break one principle design decision of Artisan. Each of the 4 custom events take values from 0 to 100. Sliders are designed as a way to enter data for custom events. That's why the range from 0 to 100 as well. Think about 0-100%.
Thus it is possible to emit signals from slider that map to a different value range by adjusting the slider factor and offset settings.
Sorry,

If I create an extra device, and select "program", there is no place
to specify what program to run. It seems to default to "test.py".

Sliders seem to always have a range of 0-100. How do I create a slider
with a range of say, 0-15? That is, when I move the slider to its
highest point, it shows 15 and not 100.
Thanks,
Rob

I am new to the Artisan software and have been setting it up on my
KN-8828B-2K+. I think I have everything working other than the ET LCD
reading that doesn't show (it does read on the roaster). I am sure that it
is a simple setting, however despite spending hours trying to figure it out
I have had no luck. I would be very grateful if you could guide me in the
right direction.
I have ticked the ET LCD flag under menu Config >> Device, ET/BT tab, I have
been through the setup configuration a number of times. When I toggle the ET
<-> BT flag the ET temp appears in the BT LCD still nothing in the box
above. The LCD box is there it just doesn't have a reading. I know it's not
mission critical, just annoying.
I have attached a copy of the roast log which is probably not much use in
answering my question.
Thanks in advance.
Richard
Your ET LED is selected by checking a box in the Configure > Device
page. Far right side there is a box for LEDs: BT and ET
