I've been using the Artisan program for some time now on an Ambex ym2 with
an Omega data logger and a 2 ghz dual core laptop. I just loaded 0.8 and
I'm hoping that I might get smoother ROR values with this version as I see
that is one of the improvements. Maybe the issue is the fast response of my
probes? Is there a way to compensate for this in Artisan? Can you make
some recommendations as to the EXTRA settings for the newer version and
maybe something up to date about the effects of using values too large or
too small? My ROR just jumps around too much and by the time it's
dropping/rising too rapidly it's almost too late for me to do anything about
it. Could I benefit (or not and why) from using over sampling or a higher
or lower sample rate? I'm at 4.0 now. Which curve smoothing values affect
real time displays and which don't? I've been reading Scott Rao's new book
and find myself evaluating my roasts and looking carefully at ROR and 1st to
drop percentages so Artisan is so useful. Thanks so much to all that have
contributed to this great program.

Okay!
When I changed my setup to monitor an espresso machine, then back again to the coffee roaster, then to have 4 probes on two separate Amprobe devices, and setting it up on a different laptop, I was always going round and round through all the variables before it worked again.
Once I tried two USB drivers and then it turned out I needed to un-install one of them to allow the other to work properly.
Sometimes I was changing so much that I noticed it HAD worked but I had already changed something again and I forgot what it was exactly… all until it worked and I had it perfect, and then I forgot what it was exactly until I needed to find out again months later on the other machine…
One always learns!

Have you looked at these 3 fields, also right-clicking on them?
Tip: FC = first crack
We are now using Artisan with a Diedrich IR-12 with Phidget/thermocouple package and a Huky sample roaster.
Is there a way to save Device Configs so I don;t have to re-config the settings each time I use the other roaster (the Diedrich with phidget settings takes several steps).
Thanks for any info.

Hi I am having trouble getting Artisan to read my yocto thermocouple unit.
I have downloaded artisan 9.4 and I have two thermocouples type K and a
Yocto thermocouple, although the virtual hub is reading the temp probes I
cannot get artisan to read them.
Does anyone have any advice?

“protocol” is a technical term for the code / language / sequence of ‘words' the two devices need to agree on to be able to communicate. In mechanical things like an automobile you could say “transmission”.
https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Communications_protocol
If the word is strange to you, that means you need someone else to get that sorted for you and it’s good that you know the programmer of Sonofresco. He will certainly know what is needed. So if you can get this programmer to send the information he knows is needed to Marko, eventually you will have a version of Artisan that can understand the signals from USB or serial port from your roaster.

Sorry to bring this old subject back up, but I'd really like to be able to
have my Sonofresco work with the Artisan software. What exactly do you mean
by protocol? I'm in contact with the guy who does the Sonofresco software,
so I should be able to get the info needed.

Hello!
I am wondering if there is any guide for Artisan software usage, I am new to it and not sure how to use it or how to load a roasting profile or how to use the ramp & soak option or how to tailor a roasting profile manually to the software, if any one can help & advice that will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ramez.

Artisan for Windows is currently build on Windows XP. So it should run. If your machine has only the Celeron processor, you should choose the corresponding Artisan installer for that platform. For the TC4 you need to install the FTDI driver.
Not sure why Arduino can't download a program to your Arduino board. I did not try it, but see no reason why this should not work. It is also based on simple serial communication via that FTDI driver.
Best,
Marko
