Hi, I plan on purchasing a Center 609 thermometer. I just want to make sure that once I get it, it will be a simple plug in play situation? Like pick the data logger form the list and then roast! Is it even close to the simple? Also is this the right place to come with questions? i posted something on Home barista recently but didnt get a response.
thank you for your time
Dustin
I'm in the process to buy a 6kg roaster (Genio roaster from South Africa) and I would like to know if there is any possibility to log (and graph) the measurement of airflow and the gas input along with the 2 thermocouple probes (I'm already using an Omega HH506RA with 2 probes with artisan)
I'm open to any suggestion. The roaster comes with just 2 thermocouple probes but there is huge flexibility to implements all the tools in order to achieve the goal since I'm in direct contact with the owner that is the engineer.
The final goal is maximum control of all the variables to achieve perfect consistency.
Thank you very much for the great software you're developing for free, I'm a real happy artisan user with my actual 1kg homemade iron drum roaster.

Hi,
I have a custom roaster that I can program to 'emulate' other devices as
needed so I can use Artisan. At the moment it emulates an Arduino.
As an Arduino I can send 4 different values to Artisan.
Is there a way that I can send more? I really only want to use one
serial port.
Also, is there a way to send a 'message' to Artisan to signal drop and
other events?
thanks for a great program.
regards
Lee
Intersting topic!
As a user of a 1/2 kg-HUKY-roaster
I am glad to be able to produce an Artisan log file with ET and BT.
What is the aim of measuring and controlling air flow?
Saving energy?
Doing better roasts?
I try to stay stable with the air flow at a law level, just to make sure,
that chaff and smoke are comming out.
I do not use air flow to change temperature.
I would really want to know, how important and how useful
air-flow-logging could be.
Only good for big roasters? I do not know what the standards are.
Tricky, due to measuring failures?
Best luck
Erhard

For one, environmental conditions like air pressure effects the air flow in the roaster and you need some data to know how to best compensate for this, and second, it seems that there is a point of airflow in each roaster that maximizes energy transfer. Any airflow higher than that results in more cold air flowing in than your heater can cope with.

One would put both ends in the pipe transporting the air out of the roaster, one pointed in the direction of the airflow the other against it. Further, it might be best to use some metal for the pressure pipes to the sensors to ensure that the temperature does not get to hot at the sensor. There are mechanic sensors and also electric ones, some even integrated into a meter with USB connection like the Extech HD-755. Not sure if chaff in the air could lockup the sensor pipes.

Hi all.
http://code.google.com/p/artisan/
There is a new version of artisan that fixes some bugs and also adds new LCDs for the extra devices. The extra devices LCDs are non visible by default. They can be turned on individually for each extra device in the extra device configuration table.
The artisan team.
